We have a fondness for publishers here at Reading for Australia and the Kids' Lit Quiz because without publishers we wouldn't have books.
We warmly invite book publishers who wish to support the Kids' Lit Quiz:
- by providing books for prizes for the kids' competitions;
- by encouraging authors to participate;
- in other ways,
all in return for suitable and thankful acknowledgement, to contact Linda De Silva at readingforaustralia@gmail.com.au

Walker Books Australia
The value added by publishers can be seen in the story of how the highly acclaimed book, A Monster Calls by Patrick Ness, came to be. While the work holds its own as a brilliant piece of fiction, the back story tells of a marvelous, collaborative project put together by a publisher whose editors' skill and judgment was critical.
The publisher, Walker Books, represented both authors Siobhan Dowd and Patrick Ness. Before she died, Siobhan Dowd discussed her ideas for the book with her editor. After her death, and recognising the value of the concept, Walker Books engaged Patrick Ness to write the story and found Jim Kay to illustrate it.
Jim Kay and Patrick Ness did not meet until after the book was published in May 2011, and yet the separate components of the book - the concept, the text and the illustrations - all combine seamlessly thanks to the publisher who brought it together.
